Art Glass Solutions and Art-y-fakt are proud to bring you a unique event in which the art of glass engraving meets music. During the course of the evening a selection of singers, hand picked by Thomas Manhart will perform a number of opera arias. A team of glass engravers; within sight of the audience; will transcribe music onto wine glasses, providing a visual echo of the performance once it is complete. Members of the audience may have a favourite piece of music they would like to have engraved and can contact Art-y-fakt to place on order for their choice to be engraved. The cost for this is $45 per wine glass or $50 for an A4 sized sheet of glass. (These prices include entry to the event). The technique used for this performance is drill engraving which involves the use of a small hand held drill engraver which carves lines into the surface of the glass, literally scratching the surface of the glass. These lines can be as subtle as a pencil sketch or as bold as a graphic artwork created with thick tipped marker pen. Members of the audience may have a favourite piece of music they would like to have engraved and will have the opportunity to place on order for their choice to be engraved. Art Glass Solutions undertakes art projects as diverse as large-scale sculptural installations, objects for private commissions, art works for exhibitions and an education and outreach program. Formed in the early part of 2008 AGS is a partnership between renowned artists B. Jane Cowie (Australia), B. Gopinath (India) and Dominic Fondé (UK) and is based in Singapore Dominic Fondé is a professional glass artist working with blown and engraved glass art for ten years. He has many of his artworks in public and private collections in the United Kingdom and Europe. His public commissions notably include a series of engraved art glass windows at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Recently he was commissioned by Givenchy to engrave perfume bottles in Terminal 3, Changi Airport and BHG department, Bugis. He is the only professional glass engraver working in Singapore and was recently featured on Media Corp TV program "On The Beat". Fondé relocated to Singapore in 2005 and has since been living and working as a glass artist, designer, drawer and educator. Dr. Thomas Markus Manhart, Ph.D., M.A., LAss teaches Solo Voice Opera, Oratorio and Lied, German Phonetic for Singers, Ethnomusicology, Southeast Asian Music and Javanese Gamelan. He lives and works in Singapore teaching privately and at many of the higher education institutions. He is the president and founding member of Opera Studio, Chamber opera society and has given many performances as an alto soloist.
